Alcheringa, popularly known as "Alcher", is the annual cultural festival of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati. It was started in 1996 by a group of students of IIT Guwahati. Since then, it has gone on to become one of the biggest college level cultural events in Asia. Alcheringa is conducted towards the end of January every year. Spread over 3 days and 4 nights, it attracts people from all over the world with its spectacular events and competitions. The 2015 edition, held from 29th January to 1st Feb, witnessed more than 70 events. Students from about 350 colleges from all over the country participated andan attendance of more than 70,000 people was estimated.

Your extra-curricular abilities will come to the fore during IIT Guwahati’s signature inter-hostel cultural competition, as ten bastions of pride prepare to battle it out for the Manthan trophy. Manthan brings out of you abilities you may never have realized you have as you and your mates show everyone else why your hostel trounces all others.Held during the month of October, Manthan also gives you an excellent chance to bond with the seniors from your hostel, and find new friends in your batch. Winning something of this scale is not something a small group of people can ever accomplish, and entire army of dancers, writers, singers, instrumentalists, painters, and prop-makers will be required to oust the competition. Night-outs, team work, time management and delivering a winning performance, that’s just the kind of stuff the spirit of Manthan embodies. 'Advaya' from its origin in Sanskrit literally means being one or united. This fest hence is an attempt to unite the students of IIT Guwahati and instil the essence of being one and together, in each one of us. The IITG fraternity through the fest interact and become aware of each other as fellow department mates or as fellow campus resident. Advaya is an Intra-Collegiate cultural fest. It is an Inter-Departmental Fest wherein each department sends participants to the galore of competition and events organised by team Advaya, in order to gain points to recieve the ultimate trophy of victory, to be crowned as the best Department of IIT Guwahati.
